On March 21, Monrovia, California residents came together for a community walk in honor of a bear and its two young cubs that were euthanized this week by wildlife officials.
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) declared the bear a threat to public safety after it allegedly clawed a woman who was walking her dog. People in the community are now demanding that policies be changed.
More than 100 people gathered to honor the mother bear and her two young cubs, Blondie, the Monrovia bear, with signs in hand. The walk started at Monrovia Library Park on March 21 at 9 a.m.
According to Monrovia police, a bear named Blondie approached a woman who was walking her dog on Oakglade Drive a week ago and scratched the back of her knee. After escaping with her dog, the woman was taken to a hospital for medical attention.
