On September 21 afternoon, a bear attacked a women who was trekking near Haines, Alaska. The woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to authorities.The attack happened on Jones Point Trail at around 4 p.m., according to the Alaska Wildlife Troopers, although troopers weren’t alerted until about 11 p.m.Troopers reported that the victim, an adult woman, was able to flee the incident on her own and sought medical attention, KTUU reports.Her identity is still Haines police, the trail is closed for the time being.Since female bears sometimes respond aggressively to protect their young, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game flags this combination as particularly risky. Authorities believe the animal involved was a sow traveling with a cub. An investigation into the attack has also been opened by Fish and Game.
