After the husband chose not to alter a recurring number on his $12 ticket, the Auckland couple shared a $25 million Powerball prize.
On March 28 night, winning happened during the virtual draw. The man, who purchased the ticket through MyLotto, claimed that although he generally tweaks the Powerball number to his chosen numbers, he discovered that the number 3 had shown twice, Auckland Now reports.
Before gathering their children to share the news, the couple, who had won a total of $12.75 million, kept it a secret for a few days. The woman claimed that while she was using the bathroom, her husband calmly informed her that he thought they had won when he came in the doorway.
On the way to their daughter’s house, the couple stopped at a store to buy a bottle of champagne. As they made the announcement, the woman claimed to have sneaked the bottle inside and taken it out.
