At three in the morning on a Monday, a man was captured on camera using a hand saw to chop down a tree on Bowen Tce in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane, Australia and then dragged the tree along the sidewalk, 7News, Australia reports.

Another night, at the same street corner, a woman in a bucket hat was spotted ripping out a miniature pine by its roots.

Locals told the media that even artificial plants were targeted, claiming to have witnessed a woman chopping off the branches and petals of a fake olive tree.

According to authorities, depending on the council, stealing from public areas may be a police matter.On the Gold Coast, it is considered an in violation of local laws and fines for offenders upto $834.
