Scotland Confirms No Cat Ban

Scottish authorities reassured cat owners that there will be no ban on cats in spite of a report that claimed cats were endangering wildlife. A study sparked suspicions of a ban by pointing out that cats kill millions of birds and animals annually in the United Kingdom.

According to a December 2024 report from the Scottish Animal Welfare Commission, cats kill 700 million birds and other creatures in the United Kingdom each year. The impact they have on Scotland’s biodiversity was particularly noted in the report.

Speculation that a cat ban would be implemented immediately spread as government authorities took the findings into consideration. In order to hold cat owners accountable, jwelfare experts urged the government to create containment zones.
