On August 12 overnight, over 1,500 mink escaped from a farm in Oregon, United States. At Cascade Farm in Turner, Oregon, a suspected intruder purposefully broke open a portion of fence, causing the animals to be released, KOIN reports. They found the hole early on August 13.This was not activism, according to Challis Hobbs, Executive Director of Fur Commission USA, an organization that advocates for mink growers, including Cascade Farm. It was a criminal act against a certified, legally operated farm. On August 13 afternoon, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the break-in to local TV station and stated that it is conducting an investigation. They added that roughly 90% of the animals have been rescued by the farm’s owners.
