Manipur’s Women Weavers

Manipur, India’s north-eastern state, is well-known for handloom weaving. Manipur’s most important cottage business is the handloom industry. Handloom items are only made by women. Wangkhei, Bamon Kampu, Kongba, Khongman, and Utlou women weavers are well-known for their talent. Traditional tribal shawls come in a variety of shapes and sizes and can be found throughout Manipur and India. The national and international markets are flooded with these shawls. In Manipur, you may get a wide variety of garment fabrics,bed sheets, cushion covers, and scarves in a wide range of exotic hues and styles.In Manipur, women make their living by weaving.Tourists may see this excellent artisans in action.

Traditionally, indigenous women from the Meitei, Kabui, Kuki, Thang Khul, Paite, and Hmar tribes have worked in this field. There are no direct railway services to Imphal, Manipur’s capital city, if you want to visit the state. Tourists can, however, travel by bus or plane from Imphal to Guwahati or Dimapur, the nearest train stations.
