An indigenous dog breed from Macedonia is the Macedonian Shepherd Dog – Karaman.The breed originated from indigenous mountain shepherd dogs that were used to protect herds in the Macedonian mountains for centuries.Recently, the Macedonian Shepherd Dog – Karaman have been provisionally recognized internationally by the General Committee of the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI).Their medium-length black or black and brown coats cover their sturdy, compact bodies.Male and female heights are 25 to 26 inches (65 to 68 cm), and 24 to 25 inches (62 to 66 cm), respectively, and their weights are 40 to 45 kg (85 to 99 pound) and 37 to 42 kg (81 to 92 pound) respectively.They are intelligent and independent.
