Lhasa apso are small sized dogs that are easily identified by their long, flowing hair. They have straight fur that is part-colored in black, white, red, and gold. This ancient breed originated in Tibet, where they were used as guard dogs in Buddhist monasteries. They are confident, energetic, and great watchdogs despite their small size. They are 10 to 11 inches (25 to 27 cm) in height, weigh 5 to 8 kgs (12 to 18 pounds), and their average lifespan of 12 to 15 years.
