Cleveland Park and the Greenville Zoo, South Carolina, USA, were closed as zoo personnel and first responders trapped an endangered species that had escaped its exhibit, according to city officials.Irina, the four-year-old Amur leopard at the Greenville Zoo, escaped her enclosure earlier this morning and was on the loose for over half an hour, officials said.After the arrival of Greenville police and firefighters, a perimeter was set up in accordance with zoo emergency procedures, WSPA reports.As a precaution, residents were asked to stay away from the area, and zoo employees and visitors were evacuated to strategic locations.The male leopard Irina, was tranquilized by emergency response teams around 9:30 a.m. According to officials, she was returned to the safe leopard den following a preventative second injection. The zoo said the two youngsters and the male leopard are secure within their display.
