According to the fire department, a coyote pup that had fallen into a lake in Cape Coral, Florida, on Monday morning was saved with the help of two local residents. When officials arrived at Britannia Lake, a body of water about 14 miles south of Fort Myers, in response to a report about a dog in a canal, they found a coyote pup paddling “from shore to shore.” Brian, a neighbor, first saw an animal fall into the lake, Cape Coral Fire Department said. When he leaped into the water in an attempt to save it, onlookers noticed and made the first 911 calls, NBC 6 South Florida reports. Firefighters can be seen in the video reaching under the docks to grab the animal. The coyote was trying to swim away because it was afraid, but the authorities caught the pup by the nape of its neck and managed to carry it out of the water. The coyote was pulled from the lake’s warm waters by firefighters.
