A set of open standards enabling passwordless authentication for websites, apps, and online services is known as Fast Identity Online (FIDO) authentication.FIDO authentication uses passkeys—cryptographic credentials safely kept on a user’s device—instead of passwords. These passkeys offer a simple method of user authentication for websites and services.By using cryptographic keys for identity verification, FIDO Authentication significantly boosts security. By using this technique, typical password vulnerabilities like credential stuffing and phishing are eliminated.Public key cryptography and multifactor authentication (MFA) are supported by FIDO specifications.Unlike password databases, FIDO protects personally identifiable information by locally storing it on the user’s device, including biometric authentication data. The goal of FIDO’s local biometric and other personal identity storage is to allay user worries about private information kept on an external cloud server.
