The dark web is frequently used for the production, distribution, and discussion of child sexual abuse materials (CSAM) in order to avoid discovery by law authorities and to remain hidden from search engines.

Using AI technology to create child sexual abuse material (CSAM) is a significant and growing threat, according to the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF).

Experts say,the most common targets of CSAM are children, mostly girls. All ages of children are involved with this content, although prepubescent children are most at risk. Usually, the abuser is someone the child knows and trusts, which gives them permission to be alone themselves with the child while abusing them.

Google makes significant investments to combat online child sex abuse and exploitation, and they use their in-house technologies to identify, stop, and report violations on their platforms. In order to share their technological expertise and create and distribute solutions that will aid organizations in combating CSAM, Google also collaborates with industry and non-governmental organizations on programs.

Google’s hash matching, machine learning technologies, and information Safety API are examples of technology that speeds up the detection of sexually explicit items and lessens the spread of illicit information globally.

In order to recognize explicit images more quickly, artificial intelligence is becoming more and more important.

Several legal and regulatory measures have been implemented in place to successfully combat child sexual abuse material (CSAM) in India. For example, the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 which Provides social media companies with proactive sanctions for non-compliance and mandate that they detect and eliminate CSAM.

The Protection of minors from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act of 2012 provides severe penalties for anyone who commit sexual offences against minors, including the production, distribution, and possession of CSAM.

Section 67B of the Information Technology (IT) Act of 2000 outlines the penalties for disseminating or publishing content that depicts sexually explicit conduct involving children. According to Section 293 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), it is unlawful to sell, distribute, or display pornographic materials featuring minors in public. Violators are subject to penalties.
