Recently, the state-owned oil and gas corporation was the target of a ransomware attack, putting Pakistan’s oil and gas industry on high alert. This is the latest in a year that has seen hundreds of ransomware attacks affect vital infrastructure.

Pakistan’s National Cyber Emergency Response Team warns that the attackers used “Blue Locker” malware, which can infect network-attached storage, backups, Windows PCs, and cloud environments. Hackers’ ransomware, according to cyber defence experts, seems to be modelled after Shinra malware.

According to experts,Blue is a ransomware that is based on SHINRA. This category of malicious software encrypts data and demands ransom to unlock it.

Certain file types are known to be targeted by SHINRA.The aim of the advanced virus kind known as Shinra ransomware is to encrypt important data in order to block legitimate access to data kept on both personal and business computers.
