An AI worm is a type of malware that propagates on its own and uses artificial intelligence to enhance its capabilities to evade detection.AI worms are capable of identifying vulnerabilities in systems, evading detection mechanisms, and carrying out highly targeted attacks.AI worms, contrary to conventional computer viruses, may infect devices completely on their own by taking advantage of security vulnerabilities and making duplicates of themselves along the way.Researchers from Israel and the United States have developed a computer worm which named Morris II that can replicate itself automatically and target artificial intelligence applications.Emails can be compromised, malware can spread, and data can be stolen. This zero-click malware that uses GenAI applications without the user having to click anything. In addition to generating and sending spam and other malicious emails through compromised AI-powered email assistants, Morris II Warm can extract sensitive personal data, such as names, phone numbers, credit card numbers, and financial information, from the emails of compromised systems. The researchers created the worm to expose security flaws in Generative AI applications.
