A historical Site in India:Arikamedu

Arikamedu is located 3 kilometres south of Pondicherry, India, on the Virampattinam River. The artefacts discovered at this location demonstrated that ancient India and Rome had regular communication. The majority of the relics date from around the year 200. Those unearthed included a warehouse and a structure. In 1945, Sir Mortimer Wheeler excavated the site. Arikameda became a centre for maritime trade. It grew into a significant port, exporting textiles, glass, jewels, and shell bangles. From Arikameda, wines, olive oils, and other products were imported. Tourists must go to Arikamedu to learn about the site’s historical significance.

Arretine Ware, Amphorae-high-necked handled jars, and Roulette dish were among the notable finds at this site. Metal things (iron nails and other items), an ivory handle, a wooden toy boat, and other items are among the other items. Tourists go to Arikamedu because it is an archaeological site. The perpendicular walls and a mission house are now the only things tourists can see. Tourists can visit the Pondicherry Museum for additional information on Arikamedu and its historical significance.
