Recent attacks on wild donkeys wandering Reche Canyon have outraged the Riverside community.
After the brutalization of nearly two dozen wild donkeys, the community has become more concerned. Reche Canyon, which is close to Moreno Valley, is home to the majority of the injured animals.
At a town hall meeting on Monday, residents discussed the horrific attacks with law police and animal control. There is currently a $50,000 reward for apprehending and convicting the perpetrator.
Several donkeys with harrowing wound to their cheeks, tails, and ears may be seen in pictures taken by volunteers with the nonprofit group Donkeyland. One photo from September of last year features an arrow-shot burro. A headless burro is depicted in another, more recent photo.
For decades, the donkeys have been wandering the region. In an effort to keep them safe, Donkeyland currently manages over 2,000 acres.
It appears that dogs are attacking the donkeys, according to investigators. The wounds are intentional, non-profit Donkeyland says.
