
In honor of Brian Haw, a tenacious activist who spent ten years outside Westminster demanding for an end to war, a statue has been unveiled in Elephant and Castle,London.
Brian Haw started his peace protest in Parliament Square in June 2001,no matter the weather, his opposition to war specifically the invasion of Iraq and the foreign policy of the United Kingdom and the United States.
His statement “Stop killing the kids” garnered both domestic and foreign media attention.The newly revealed statue still bears its inscription. People were supportive of Haw’s effort from the beginning, bringing him food and clothing while he kept his vigil around the clock, every day of the year.
Around £26,000 was donated by more than 1,000 people to cover the cost of installing the 72-cm statue by sculptor Amanda Ward.
