A kitten that had run out into the road in front of a car and jumped up to hide in the undercarriage was saved by the South Carolina’s Bluffton County firefighters.

According to the Facebook page of Bluffton Township Fire District, a small kitten rushed across the road earlier this week when a Bluffton homeowner was driving along Bluffton Parkway. The driver and his son stopped right away to be sure, fearing the worse. They looked everywhere, but the kitten was nowhere to be seen. They heard faint meowing coming from underneath the car just as they were getting back behind the wheel.

They pulled over once more and searched again, still no kitten. Determined to get help, they drove straight to our fire station on Burnt Church Road (Station 30) where the on-duty crew jumped in to assist. The firefighters searched as thoroughly as they could, but the kitten was wedged so deeply that she couldn’t be seen. When the crew was dispatched to a medical call, they contacted our Fire District maintenance shop for help.

They stopped again and looked again, but there was still no kitten. They went directly to the fire station station 30 on Burnt Church Road for help, and the on-duty firefighters stepped in to help. Despite their best efforts, the firefighters were unable to see the kitten because she was stuck so deeply. The firefighters called our Fire District repair shop for help after being called to a medical emergency.

Senior Mechanic Tyler Williams gently used his equipment to rescue the trapped kitty when he crawled underneath the car after the driver had brought it over. The small kitten was successfully rescued, the post described.

The kitten, now affectionately named “Flash” for her quick dash across the roadway, is recovering at the Beaufort County Animal Shelter, gaining weight and doing well as she prepares for adoption or fostering.
