Several people have reported spotting a small alligator in the water along the Charles River Esplanade, Boston, Massachusetts, US,earlier this week. Many people questioned whether the alligator could be rescued or if it would succumb to the cold as thousands of people viewed and commented on posts about it on the internet.
The alligator has now been rescued. In an Instagram post, animal educator Joseph Kenney who owns Joe’s Crazzy Critters confirmed that he was in possession of the critter, Boston.com reports.
The animal is now safe and warm, according to Kenney. It will be “a new resident and ambassador” at his company, he hopes.
MassWildlife officials said on Wednesday that they were working with the Massachusetts Environmental Police and Boston Animal Care and Control to find and trap the alligator after hearing of reports about it.
Alligators and other crocodilian species are prohibited from being kept as pets in Massachusetts.
