As part of its efforts to increase tree production capacity, Forestry and Land Scotland has taken the possession of a large glasshouse that is roughly the size of two football fields. At Newton Nursery, close to Elgin, the new facility is a component of a multi-million-pound renovation and modernization project. The greenhouse, which is 12,000 square meters in size, can grow up to 19 million trees annually under its massive roof.
According to the media reports, together with the other operational buildings, the nursery team of Forestry and Land Scotland will now finish the fit out. The property will be completely operational by the end of 2025, with the first nursery activities starting during that year. A new distribution and operations center and offices are also located on the property.
