
The first-time parents are two Galapagos tortoises at the Philadelphia Zoo,United States,that are about 100 years old and highly endangered. Recently,the zoo stated in a statement that it is “overjoyed” when the four hatchlings arrive, marking the first time in its more than 150-year history that this has happened. Mother and Abrazzo, the zoo’s two oldest residents, are the parents of the babies.
They weigh nearly the same as a chicken egg, weighing between 70 and 80 grams.The zoo will hold a naming competition and the hatchlings’ public debut on April 23.
