The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) says that humans occasionally make birds experience excruciating wing-clipping so they are unable to fly.As they fight to escape, wild birds are entangled in nets or traps that can cause them great harm or even death. They are packed into tiny, suffocating crates after being captured.
The 1972 Wild Life Protection Act prohibits the taking and sale of hundreds of native bird species. The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act of 1960, on the other hand, prohibits the keeping of any animal in a manner that denies it “a reasonable opportunity for movement,” which for a bird means flying.
Under the Wildlife Protection Act, birds such as the Red Munia, Alexandrine Parakeet, Rose Ringed Parakeet, and Jungle Maina are protected. The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora protects even the African grey parrot, Blue-throated Macaw, and Yellow-crested Cockatoo from being traded internationally.
