Sextortion is a type of online abuse in which a cybercriminal seduces a victim into an intimate video or audio chat with the intent of forcing them to pose nude or obtaining intimate images from them. The cybercriminal may use various channels, including instant messaging apps, SMS, online dating apps, social media platforms or pornographic websites.Later on, the fraudster use this material to intimidate, exploit, and extort the victims.Never send anyone compromising pictures, videos, or posts about yourself, regardless how close you are.Never accept or ask someone you don’t know for a friend on social networking.On your instant messaging apps and social media accounts, enable the privacy and security features.Keep your private or personal photos private. Never let anyone, no matter how close, use a device to record any intimate activity or private part. Such information might later be used improperly.Never answer video calls from strangers or open attachments they send you. Sextortion complaints can be made online or at your local cybercrime cell.
