
On the evening of February 10, two American skiers were rescued after becoming lost while backcountry skiing close to Livigno, Italy, currently hosting all of the 2026 Winter Olympics’ freestyle skiing and snowboarding competitions, close to the Swiss border, situated at an elevation of about 6,000 feet.
According to a translated statement from Italy’s national fire and rescue agency Vigili del Fuoco, the two unnamed male skiers “lost their bearings” in the dark and became “stranded at high altitude,” FOX News reports.
Rescuers used drones with thermal imaging cameras to find the men after they gave authorities their GPS positions.After the rescue, both skiers were said to be in good health.
