The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence #NoExcuse for online abuse was organized by the UN agency for women’s rights, gender equality, and women’s empowerment from November 25 to December 10.

Cyberbullying, online gender and sexual harassment, cyberstalking, online grooming for sexual assault, hacking, hate speech, online impersonation, sextortion, image-based abuse in which cyber stalkers share intimate photos without consent, doxxing, and using technology to locate survivors of abuse in order to inflict further violence are just a few of the many ways that technology can facilitate gender-based violence.

Making All Spaces Safe is a global initiative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) that is supported by Global Affairs Canada. Its goal is to address the increasing incidence and threat of technology-facilitated gender-based violence, also known as “digital violence,” which is defined as any act of violence committed by one or more people that is assisted, aggravated, and amplified by the use of information and communication technology or digital media against a person on the basis of gender.Benin, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, and Tunisia are the five countries where the project consists of both global interventions and targeted programs.

AI can prevent, respond and support victims of gender-based violence by utilizing sophisticated algorithms and processing capacity.According to experts, AI can help build evidence-based policies and intervention initiatives by analyzing large datasets to find patterns, risk factors, and trends related to violence against women.

In order to detect any threats, harassment, or abusive behavior, AI algorithms can monitor digital communications, social media platforms, and online social media platforms. To monitor and address online violence against women, men, and children, AI-powered natural language processing can analyze text-based information to find instances of harassment, threats, or abusive language.

Experts also suggest, AI-powered chatbots and virtual assistants can provide information, emotional support, round-the-clock assistance, and connections to support groups or helplines for victims of violence.
